A freeze-dried article which is a pharmaceutical preparation containing either prostaglandin E1 optionally containing a cyclodextrin or a PGE1-cyclodextrin clathrate compound and which has a water content less than about 1.5 wt.% and further contains a maltose. It is inhibited from yielding PGE1 decomposition products including not only PGA1 but also decomposition product (I) and/or decomposition product (II). This freeze-dried article has higher stability and is useful as a medicine.
