The British Pharmaceutical Conference and Exhibition - Sept 26-28, 2005 England
The British Pharmaceutical Conference and Exhibition
Sept 26-28, 2005
Manchester International Convention Centre
England
All those working in the fields of pharmaceutical science and in pharmacy practice share a common goal ? to improve the health of the population.

Both areas encompass a wide array of disciplines, ranging from post-genomic chemistry and materials science through to health economics and medicines management. Clearly, scientific discovery and development and the day-to-day service to the patient must go hand in hand to make the vision of improving the quality of life a reality. Uniquely, BPC 2005 will spotlight the partnership between science and practice in the theme of the conference: A common vision for health: linking science and practice.
Through a series of plenary sessions, debates and symposia, BPC 2005 will explore the ways in which practitioners can work together, to provide an environment where closer cooperation and greater mutual understanding will be promoted. There will also be a strong emphasis on how research activities tie in with clinical practice and a series of debates on topical issues pertinent to the pharmaceutical arena. Running alongside will be a high-level scientific programme, for which BPC is renowned, with opportunities for emerging research to be highlighted and discussed.

Similarly, for those working in practice, the conference will consider all the cur rent issues facing pharmacists working at every level in the health services. The science sessions at BPC 2005 will include issues such as the development of nanomedicines, novel approaches to the imaging of dosage forms, and the development of tissue engineering as a therapeutic strategy. The joint science into practice sessions will address topics including obesity, Alzheimer's disease and microbial drug "super-resistance". These sessions are aimed at a general pharmaceutical audience and will be of interest and relevance to all delegates. Sessions have been developed in close cooperation with specialist groups including the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the United Kingdom and Ireland Controlled Release Society (UKICRS), the Joint Pharmaceutical Analysis Group (JPAG) and the Society for Applied Microbiology.

For pharmacists working in practice, BPC 2005 will feature debates and discussions on the quality of prescribing; Shipman and the effect on regulation, the implications of the Public Health White Paper and of the new Pharmacy Contract, the opportunities presented by chronic disease management and the plurality of health provision will be explored as will the challenges of IT and skill mix. BPC 2005 offers a lively and participative programme in which all delegates will find new and interesting topics relevant to their working practices.
