A chimeric RNA molecule comprising at least one shRNA (short hairpin RNA) segment capable of forming siRNA which can act through viral RNA (target sequence) to inhibit the replication/growth of a virus or at least one miRNA segment capable of acting through viral RNA (target sequence) to inhibit the expression of a protein involved in the life cycle of the virus, and further comprising at least one RNA segment selected from the group consisting of: at least one decoy RNA segment capable of binding to a protein involved in the life cycle of the virus to inhibit the replication/growth of the virus; at least one antisense RNA segment capable of hybridizing to a gene involved in the life cycle of the virus to inhibit the replication/growth of the virus; an RNA segment comprising at least one ribozyme capable of inhibiting the expression of a protein involved in the life cycle of the virus; an RNA segment comprising at least one tRNase ZL-EGS capable of inhibiting the expression of a protein involved in the life cycle of the virus; and an RNA segment comprising at least one RNase P-EGS capable of inhibiting the expression of a protein involved in the life cycle of the virus, two or more of the RNA segments being cleavably linked to one another.
